Taking care of your skin during winters

There’s a certain nip in the air. The mercury has plunged, and the day’s have become shorter. The  weekends are now a bustle of airing out those down jackets and removing the quilted bedspreads.  Ughhh! One of the many joys of winter (or not!). Leave alone the winters, just the mere turn in the  season, starts playing a ruckus on your skin. The dry winds, and the icy temperatures are soon going to  bring with them a host of skin related problems. Dry skin, chapped lips, dull and lifeless looking skin and  that dryness induced rashes along with skin burn and many more skin issues.

It's time to tweak our skin care regime to suit the needs of our skin, according to the change in weather. There are many tips and tricks to keep your skin healthy looking. Let’s help you learn these.

• Moisturize immediately after a shower

Ok, so we all know that winters rob our skin of hydration, because the air around us has lower moisture  content, than our skin. And when we have a shower in the winters, the little itsy-bitsy moisture left on  our skins is also striped away due to soap and hot water. We often neglect our skin, and focus in  moisturizing just our faces. So, how must one infuse that hydration back into your skin? Simple, we need  to lock in that moisture when our skin is still damp from the shower. Studies reveal moisturizers work  best when the skin is damp. Slathering on some moisturizing lotion, fresh after a shower, before we put  on our clothes is the optimal solution.

Jovees Honey and grape skin revitalizing body lotion is a powerhouse of herbal extracts and essential  oils. Made using nature’s finest herbs like Grape Extract, Wheatgerm Oil, Almond Oil, Aloe Vera extract,  Honey and Sunflower Oil, this body lotion is a non greasy and non sticky formulation which is super  lightweight and is easily absorbed into the skin. It not only keeps your skin soft and nourished for hours  on end, but it is also keeps your skin protected by locking in the moisture and forming a protective layer  on your skin.

• Use a gentle exfoliator

People often believe that exfoliating in the winters can make your skin drier. You couldn’t be further  away from the reality. In winters our skin tends to get more drier, compared to the hot summer months,  due to the low humidity levels and cold, dry weather. Using an good exfoliator can remove the rough,  dry and dead skin cells on your face, revealing the smoother and softer looking healthy skin beneath.  Thus making your skin more breathable and allowing the moisturizing products to seep in better and  work their charm.

• Switch to a mild cleanser

Using a mild cleanser is the first and one of the most crucial steps of any skin care routine in the winters. The frosty temperatures of the winter months along with low moisture levels in the air, strip away the  natural oils from our skin. This natural oil (sebum), which is produced by our skin also acts as a natural  barrier for it. Using a mild moisturizing cleanser is essential as it not only helps retain the skin’s natural  oils, but it also infuses hydration into your skin.

Jovees strawberry face wash is the perfect solution to all your winter skin worries. This highly refreshing  face wash is made using botanical experts in skincare, such as Strawberry Extract, Marigold Extract,  Jojoba Oil and Rose water. The linoleic acid, from the fruit extracts infuses instant and intense hydration  into the skin, giving your skin the boost and ability it needs to retain moisture for a longer period of  time.

• Wear a good Sunscreen

One of the most neglected products, in our winter skincare regime is the humble, protective sunscreen.  The winter sun may not be harsh and the harmful effects of the sun’s rays may seem filtered out, but  don’t be fooled by it’s mild and weak appearance. The harmful effects of the UVA and UVB rays of the  sun are equally hard hitting in the winters as in the summers. Using a strong sunscreen with high SPF is  super essential.

Jovees Sun Guard 3in 1 matte lotion, is a broad spectrum sunscreen lotion with SPF 60. Made from  botanical extracts like Argan Oil, Green Tea, Peach extract, Chamomile, Calendula, Oat Bran Extract,  Carrot Seed Oil, Liquorice Extract and Sandal Extract, this powerhouse of a sunscreen is not only  lightweight and quick absorbing, but it also keeps your skin hydrated. Packed with anti inflammatory  and antioxidant properties, it protects your skin from sun damage while providing it with all the  essential nutrients our skin needs.

• Be consistent with your routine

Good skin does not happen overnight. It’s a slow process. Skipping your skin care regime is all too easy  during the cold winter months. Washing your face, or applying cool creams can seem like such of a  nuisance when you’re snuggled under a comforter and you are finally warm. Finding the will to get up  and following those skin care steps is crucial to good skin care. Consistency is key to smooth, radiant  skin.

• Avoid hot showers

The benefits of having a cold shower outweigh the pros of a hot shower by many manifolds. While hot  showers act as a soothing balm in those long winter months, cold showers are the way to go, if you want  to protect your skin. Bathing with steaming hot water will ruin and wash down your skin’s natural  protective oils. Just the thought of cold water sends a chill up your spine, right? Well as a compromise to  your skin, one can limit your hot shower time and bring it down to under 5 minutes, and reduce the  temperatures, making them a toasty warm from a scalding hot.

Winters are fun, those cold afternoon picnics and the foggy ghazal nights make for memorable moments. Winter skin is a real thing. Don’t let dry, flaky skin dampen your spirits. Look after your skin  and glow this winter’s!
